What CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is all about
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is an evolution of the CDMA1x, optimized for high-speed data transmissions and offers excellent support for low-latency packet applications in wide area wireless networks. Belonging to the wireless broadband family, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO offers a speed of up to 2,4 Mbps* for downloads and up to 153.4 kbps for uploads.
With this new launch, Romania is the second country in Europe to commercially offer a service based on CDMA1xEV-DO technology. The first commercial service supported by this technology was launched in Korea in January 2002, using 800 MHz bandwidth. In Europe, the first launch was registered in July 2004, by Eurotel, a Czech company, in 450 MHz bandwidth. Today there are more than 95 million users for CDMA1xEV-DO technology.
What CDMA2000 1xEV-DO has to offer you
Internet browsing at broadband speed - wireless broadband CDMA2000 1xEV-DO(802.20) technology offers you high speed mobile data transfer, with download speeds up to 2.4 Mbps*. In other words, you can navigate on the Internet wherever you like. For an average speed of 600 kbps, you have optimized access for download and browsing: e-mail/ pictures - 1 MB/10-20 sec; MP3 - 3MB/30-60 sec; movies - 700 MB/3-4 hours.
- Mobility - you can connect to Internet wherever you are within the coverage area. In other words, you are not anymore dependent on cables or the phone line. You won't have to stay late at the office waiting for that important email. Forget all about the problems related to any dial-up connection.
- Coverage - CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is a unique Internet access network with broadband speed available all over the country. Even from the launch, you were able to use CDMA2000 1xEV-DO in Bucharest and other 60 cities in Romania. Nonetheless all our modems Z010, Z020, Z030 modem also functions within CDMA2000 1x network that has nationwide coverage, which means that even if you do not have EV-DO signal, you will still be able to access the Internet.
- Security - the specific coding for CDMA2000 1x offers you a secure access to the Internet impossible to penetrate from inside or outside. Consequently, hackers will not give you any bad surprises.
- Future developments - application packages that will reduce operating costs no matter your industry. All-IP Convergent solutions - VoIP application packages, Video-on-Demand (digital images send via phone or other mobile devices) or PTT that will focus communication around your terminal. This is made possible due to the 1xEV-DO overlapping on the CDMA2000 1x network.
How does CDMA2000 1xEV-DO work
Launched by Zapp in 2001, CDMA2000 1x technology uses the bandwidth (1,25 MHz) for both voice and data transmissions. CDMA1xEV-DO uses a dedicated only for data transmissions, being 20 times faster than that provided by CDMA2000 1x network.
Latest achievements
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks are currently deployed in 58 countries around the world with more than 95.000.000 subscribers. Another 44 countries are in trials. There are more than 515 devices (GTran, Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, SONY, LG, Panasonic just to mention some of the producers) and the numbers is increasing fast.
There are 99 commercial CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks in 58 countries across all continents and 43 are in deployment. More than 95 million subscribers use CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services today.

Data-transfer speed cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on factors which are not under control, such as
- Internet networks of other operators,
- Internet connections of the servers, computers (the PC provided with USB 1.0 ports have a data-transfer rate restricted to 1.5 Mbps according to their build-up standard),
- the technology used (CDMA, 1xEV-DO),
- reception at a certain location,
- wave-propagation,
- distance to the emission-reception station, the number of users connected to the same cell at the same time etc.
The data-transfer rate using the CDMA 1X technology is up to 153.6 Kbps, while in case of the EV-DO technology it goes up to as much as 2.4 Mbps for data-receiving and 153.6 Kbps for data-transmission.
