Zapp launches the first HSPA+ network in Romania

Following an earlier announcement that indicated that it planned to enhance the performance levels of its 3G network, as to be able to offer users higher speeds of up to 21 Mbps, Zapp today announced the commercial launch of their HSPA+ network.

As such, Zapp is effectively the first mobile operator in Romania to deploy and launch a HSPA+ network. In a first phase, the new HSPA+ network rollout covers all of Bucharest and offers download speeds about three times faster than the existing 7.2Mbps network. The upload speed will increase by 15 times from 384 kbps to 5.8 Mbps.

The high speeds of 21.6 Mbps, makes Zapp's HSPA+ network the fastest mobile broadband network in Romania. The new high speeds, download and upload, will enable customers to benefit from superior services that offers better internet browsing experience, high-definition streamed mobile content and improved functionality and usage of wireless applications that require high bandwidth.

"Zapp continually pushes the limit in speed, coverage and technology, ensuring the best data user experience in Romania. With this upgrade, we are keeping Romania on the cutting edge of mobile data performance." said Chris Bataillard, CEO of Zapp.

In addition to deploying the HSPA+ and expanding the UMTS coverage, Zapp is also expanding its EV DO broadband wireless by another 25% to cover 80% of the Romanian population. This will result in wireless broadband coverage almost double than any of the other mobile internet providers. The high speed internet services from Zapp, are currently available to over 16 million peoples, throughout the country.

Mr. Yin Yimin, Chief Executive Officer of ZTE, said: "We are very proud that together with Zapp we have enabled the successful launch of the first SDR-based HSPA+ All IP network in Romania. Our UMTS project team has over 1,500 engineers and technical experts to support the Zapp deployment, ensuring a world class network performance."
