Zapp becomes main sponsor of Copacul de hartie project

Zapp is delighted to announce that it became the main sponsor of "Copacul de hartie", project aimed at preventing improper management of natural resources, such as wood, by saving trees from being cut, educating people on the importance of recycling and by implicating the right authorities in the battle against irresponsible behavior that has such a dramatic impact on the environment.

Initiated by mediaORG non profit organization, "Copacul de hartie" tree planting strategy has two components. First they collect waste paper from small, medium and even large companies, thus not only raising the funds needed to buy the trees but also making sure that these recyclable waste don't end up back in the nature and thus leading to irreversible environmental damages.

The second component refers to planting these trees at public sites, for now parks, side of the roads and other green areas of Bucharest, but in the future areas targeted for mountainous reforestation will also be considered.

"Copacul de hartie" project is a direct reaction to current environmental problems, addressing pressing and urgent matters such as global warming, fast deteriorating life and health conditions due to massive and hazardous deforestation all around the world and is intended to be both an alarm signal to put an end to this devastating processes but also an action meant to show that each of us is responsible for the quality of life we live and more important that we can all do something to improve it." said Carmen Lazar, Head of Corporate Affairs in Zapp.

Started as a pilot in April 2007, the project soon become very popular among companies willing to participate in this project by donating reusable paper but also with artists, journalists and advertising people or Internet communities that each offered to help either by volunteering their time, creativity or skills. Until September 2007, mediaORG attracted over 300 companies to take part in this project and collected 97.115 kg paper and 12.199 kg cardboard.

The funds resulted are sufficient to buy 1.120 mature trees, needed to survive in a more polluted environment such as Bucharest. The trees will be planted during this week in a green space deprived area in sector 1, Bucharest. More information about this project and about planting the trees are available at www.copaculdehartie.ro. In this respect Zapp joins as a main sponsor a growing list of sponsors of the "Copacul de hartie" project, such as: Provident Financial, Pizza Hut and ALD Automotive.

As mentioned, the project has attracted widespread support from over 300 industry organizations including: Ikea, Coca Cola, Adobe, The Dutch Embassy, Apa Nova, Banca Transilvania etc but also over 60 individuals that are contributing with waste recyclable paper donations.
