Piermario Di Pietro appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Zapp

Zapp announced today the appointment of Piermario Di Pietro as Chief Operating Officer of the company. Di Pietro joined Zapp in February 2002 as Chief Financial Officer.

"I am very excited about this new position within Zapp. With the talent and technology we have in this organization, we are attaining market leadership in providing wireless broadband connectivity throughout Romania," said Di Pietro.

Di Pietro has demonstrated great success over the last four years, leading the Finance department at Zapp, and playing a key role in the turnaround of the company in 2002. Di Pietro is also the architect of the only CDMA450 financing in the world, closed in February 2005. The loan worth USD 94 million was granted, among other criteria, due to the company's excellent financial performance, since the first mobile communications service based on CDMA450 technology was launched. The company posted a spectacular turnover evolution, year on year: from $14 million in 2002, to $52 million in 2003 and to $93 million in 2004. 2004 has also been a turning point for Zapp because early in the year the company achieved its operating break-even.

Di Pietro, who recently took up his new position, will oversee the company's next phase of growth. Di Pietro replaces Cuneyt Turktan, who managed the company during the period of May 2002 - November 2005. Cuneyt Turktan has been appointed CEO of Avea, a Turkish mobile operator, recently acquired by the Oger Telecoms Group.

Di Pietro brought to Zapp considerable experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Zapp, Di Pietro was one of the founders of Inquam, the UK based company set up by Qualcomm and Omnia to operate cdma450 companies in different countries. Before joining Inquam, Di Pietro spent five years as an investment banker at JP Morgan, in London and Paris, mainly assisting large European mobile operators to raise financing.Di Pietro graduated in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan and specialized in Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics and HEC in Paris.
