Zapp Expands Network Coverage

Zapp announces the expansion and upgrade of its CDMA450 voice and data network to 70% of the Romanian territory.

Zapp's network expansion and upgrade has led to an increase of coverage and to enhanced network capacity. Following this process, a number of 58 cities and six national roads have been integrated in the Zapp network. Another 16 cities and four national roads enjoyed the benefits of network densification efforts.

"We have invested over $50 million in Phase 3 of the national network development. It will be finalized at the end of December, when we will have covered over 200 Romanian cities. In other words, 80% of the country's population will have access to Zapp products and services," said Cuneyt Turktan, President of the Zapp Board.

The next investment phase will take place next year, when 87% of Romania's territory - 240 cities and 90% of the country's population - will enjoy the benefits of Zapp coverage.

Among the cities that entered under the Zapp coverage this year are the following: Beclean, Bicaz, Brad, Buhusi, Campia Turzii, Comanesti, Costesti, Cugir, Curtici, Ineu, Ocna Mures, Otelu Rosu, Pecica, Plopeni, Sannicolau Mare, Tg. Ocna, Valenii de Munte, Zalau.

As part of the network upgrade, Zapp also implemented new data services, such as Zapp Internet Express, Romania's first wireless broadband service that allows Internet access at speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps, based on the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. The new service is available in Bucharest and all the capital cities of Romania's counties.
